Color — a color-matching practice game

About this resource

Color is a free learning game by María Munuera and Mark MacKay of Method of Action. Short visual-matching challenges develop your attention to color. Open the page in a browser to begin; no installation or account is needed. Each exercise asks you to reproduce a target color or combination using a circular color picker. A countdown limits each exercise, so you need to judge differences while adjusting your selection. The game provides score feedback and a final result to help you review a session. The exercises cover six topics: hue, saturation, complementary, analogous, triadic and tetradic relationships. Moving from a single color to several related hues gives you a practical way to explore different color schemes. This makes it a useful short exercise alongside introductory color theory. The page includes an optional screen-calibration guide and experimental assistance for people with color-vision differences that uses shapes. Display brightness, contrast and viewing angle affect visual judgments, and the game allows some tolerance for close matches. Keep these factors in mind when comparing results. Use Color as a warm-up for palette, illustration or interface work, or to practice color harmonies. Touch interaction is supported, although no complete compatibility matrix is published. The experimental color-vision assistance helps with the exercises and should not be used as a medical test or an accessibility assessment of a design.

Usage and licensing

The game is free to play. No overall license permitting reuse of its code, graphics or other materials was found on the reviewed official pages. Free access does not establish an open license; the terms of the separate Method Draw editor do not automatically apply to this game.
